Daniel Cooney Fine Art is extremely proud to announce the debut exhibition of photographs by New York based artist Nir Arieli. The exhibition titled Inframen consists of 13 black and white infrared images of male dancers.
The infrared technique allows the artist to examine below the skin, to reveal the blemishes, scars, stretch marks, sun damage and other traces of wear that lie below the surface of his subject’s outward appearance. As dancers, the men express themselves with their bodies, at once pushing their physical limits and maintaining beauty in their appearance and movements.
With this series of photographs the artist creates a metaphor for what lies below the physical surface as a window to the subject’s interior life. The dancers are photographed while still, yet they perform for the camera. They lower their guard and allow themselves to be observed by the photographer and the viewer in a manner that is not typical of a performer.
