Robert Richardson: ROMEINAROUND
10 Feb to 8 March

Robert Richardson took the photographs of Romeinaround on a four day visit to Rome in August, 2010, and the short period of time shows in feelings of intensity and immediacy. Rome is interpreted as a kaleidoscope made from changes of visual emphasis. He captures the enthusiasm of tourists and their physical movement throughout much of the city’s historic centre. He was conscious that tourists are part of the story of contemporary Rome, but as a contrast to the homogeneous look of tourism he also went into the back streets and photographed local people. Other images in Romeinaround are souvenir sellers, street art in the form of torn posters and, of course, glimpses of the famous monuments.
