Artist’s visions Pictorialist photography / 1890-1960
16 June to 16 September 2018

“Pictorialism is a major chapter in the history of photography. It refers to an aesthetic movement that began around 1890 with the aim of gaining recognition for the creative potential of the photographic image by producing works that equated with art.
The Visions d’Artistes exhibition is the fruit of recent research and discoveries and is the first dedicated to pictorialism for over a decade in France. It proposes an updated, broader vision of the pictorialist adventure on a European scale to the viewing public. Sourced in the collections of the musée Nicéphore Niépce supplemented by a number of private collections the exhibition brings together over two-hundred photographs. The work of a number of artists is on show, some of whom were famous, others less well-known, and others whose talents have never been recognised, until now. ”
