Eliška Bartek – “Secret Photography”
7th February until 18th March

In search of the ” autonomous image”, of motives beyond the prototype nature, is where the artist Eliška Bartek takes us. Her work can be seen in the tradition of Jaromir Funke, who recognized in the photogram a ” photographic poetry, which reveals the form”. The Austrian art historian Timm Starl pointed out that the protagonists of the photogram always described their technology as a method beyond the photographic. Starl writes: “The photogram is the track, while the photograph calls attention only.” Eliška Bartek was born 1950 in Novy Jicin in Czechoslovakia and is now living in Berlin and Tessin (Switzerland).

Dandy Lion: (Re) Articulating Black Masculine Identity
APRIL 6 – JULY 12, 2015

Dandy Lion: (Re) Articulating Black Masculine Identity seeks to distinguish the contemporary expressions of the Black Dandy phenomenon in popular culture. The first comprehensive exhibition of its kind, this project highlights young men in city-landscapes who defy stereotypical and monolithic understandings of Black masculinity by remixing Victorian-era fashion with traditional African sartorial sensibilities.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: A Decisive Collection
25 February – 26 March 2015

This promises to be one of the most significant photography exhibitions in London this spring and is centred around a private collection of prints, curated according to the particular tastes and interests of the collector. As a result, the exhibition contains a fascinating balance of images, some of which are well-known and some of which are virtually unseen. In particular, the collection boasts several unusual sets of photographs including: Paris (particularly during the 1968 student protests); the USSR during the early 1970s; and celebrity portraiture – an often overlooked element of Cartier-Bresson’s oeuvre. The exhibition features portraits of sitters including Francis Bacon, Albert Camus, Coco Chanel, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Paul Sartre, Igor Stravinsky and other important cultural figures.

Felix R. Cid: X
February 5 – March 2, 2015

Opening Reception: Thursday, February 5, 6-9 pm

Humans are turning Earth into a frantic overpopulated planet. Cid was looking for a subject that would allow him to create an imaginary interpretation of reality produced under the influence of a globalized society that is overwhelmed with physical information. Macro electronic music gatherings are unique documents of our socio-economic and socio- political times. Because of the new social media influences and the post-internet era, these events have come to be one of the most popular ways for young generations to gather all over the world. In 2015, 44 million people will attend 19,000 electronic music events all over the world. These venues show a world with no boundaries. They represent a physical example of a completely globalized planet.
