Sebastião Salgado: Genesis
SEPTEMBER 19–JANUARY 11, 2015

Genesis is the third long-term series on global issues by world-renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado (born Brazil, 1944), following Workers (1993) and Migrations (2000). The result of an eight-year worldwide survey, the exhibition draws together more than 200 spectacular black-and-white photographs of wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, and indigenous peoples—raising public awareness about the pressing issues of environment and climate change. ICP is proud to be the first U.S. venue of this momentous exhibition, which is curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado.

Bill Armstrong: Infinity, Photographs
September 18-November 28, 2014

Infinity, a mid-career retrospective of Armstrong’s work, will include images from his ongoing Infinity series, an extensive body of work he has been photographing since the late 1990’s. On view will be more than 35 images from the portfolios Film Noir, Buddha, Mandala, Renaissance, and Renaissance Portraits. His unique process, photographing hand-made collages of found images out of focus with his lens set on the infinity setting, creates shimmering, vibrating images. This technique of extreme blurring dematerializes the figures and transforms them from the earthly to the ephemeral.

November 4th-11th

Gérard Musy’s series Kaleidoscope represents a multiple and dynamic concept, visible during the day and also at night. In this temporary space of the Marais, Kaleidoscope will be shown in different ways: first, a slideshow projected on the gallery’s window, also on the walls where you will be able to see the prints and in a portfolio which will gather all the photographs of the series. The music of Eric Satie and John Cage, tunes taken from music boxes and musicals will accompany the visitor into this immersive and vibrant vision.

Jeffrey Silverthorne / Claude Batho / Wonderland @ musée Nicéphore Niépce

18 October 2014 to 18 January 2015

Jeffrey Silverthorne, The Precision of Silence
Retrospective
First European retrospective, the exhibition highlights the work of Jeffrey Silverthorne (born 1946), American photographer exploring consistently for forty years the most extreme subjects. Morgues, where in the 1970s, sometimes to transcend the representation of death, raw portraits of transvestites and transsexuals, the representation of the body in all its forms remains a recurring theme in his work. The references to the great masters of painting mingle with experiments on the photographic medium: layering, cuttings, collages …
Death, sex … the artist scrutinizes anxieties, obsessions and confronts us with visceral fears to help us better dominate.

Claude-Batho-La-poesie-de-l-intime_4_colonnes

Claude Batho, Poetry of the intimate
Through his photographs, Claude Batho (1935-1981) was attached to the simplest objects that were his daily life to familiar landscapes, his inner circle. The apparent simplicity of representations gives way to sensibility, a silent beauty often associated with silver prints in black and white. This simplicity makes poetry and triumph of banality. Gesture wife photography Claude Batho reads like a diary in which subjects are not extraordinary moments in life but ultimately insignificant and immutable moments.
