Brighton Photo Fringe
4 October – 2 November 2014

Through its prominent presence alongside Brighton Photo Biennial, the internationally recognised photography festival, Brighton Photo Fringe connects early-career artists to a global audience.

The BPF14 events programme will include over 80 exhibitions and events, including pop-up displays, panel discussions, workshops, talks, guided tours, participatory events and a book fair. Underpinning and supporting this eclectic selection of exhibitions permeating the city this October, Brighton Photo Fringe are working closely with partners Metro Imaging, London’s most trusted and reliable pro lab, and Miniclick to deliver a number of events, including:

Collectives’ Hub
A large open plan office space on the seventh floor of Vantage Point, near Preston Circus, will showcase 12 exhibitions by UK Photography Collectives selected from open submission by the Brighton Photo Fringe trainee curators.

Projects and Events Hub
BPF14 Projects and Events Hub at Phoenix Brighton hosts a range of events including a Photo Publishers’ Market in collaboration with Photoworks and Miniclick. Format and Wideyed photography collectives will showcase their archives, alongside an exhibition for Black History Month. The main gallery will show Assembly, a solo exhibition by Anthony Luvera who has been working with homeless people living in Brighton & Hove to create photographs and sound recordings, and to progress his ongoing series Assisted Self-Portraits.

OPEN14
The festival’s keynote exhibition is a solo show by Peter Watkins, who was selected from an international open call. Sponsored by Metro Imaging, the exhibition will take place at The Regency Town House, an impressive partly restored historic home from the 1820s. Peter creates installations that bring together his enigmatic autobiographical photographs with sculpture to engage with ideas of memory and fiction. A 2014 graduate of the Royal College of Art MA Photography course, he has previously featured in the British Journal of Photography’s ‘ones to watch’ list.
