“Bad reputation is the last work of photographer Geoffroy Mathieu. Since 2018 Geoffroy has been surveying the banks and the bed of the Aygalades stream. Formerly a place of recreation and refreshment for the people of Marseille (especially its waterfall, currently being restored), the stream is now involved in the operation of the quarry of the Lafarge company, which manages the valley. The outgoing flow in particular is subject to the vagaries of this operation. Thereafter, the almost constant crossing of inhabited areas brings numerous polluting e uents to the watercourse, both domestic and industrial. In Geffroy Mathieu’s photographs, bursting with color and extremely precise composition, the stream becomes a motif of poetic speculation around questions linked to ecology, land use planning, and public space.”
