Stamp Collaborations and The Newark Museum are pleased to announce that Janelle Lynch’s River series, photographs of Hudson River waterscapes, are now on view for the next twelve months in the museum’s Contemporary Art galleries.
River explores themes of impermanence and loss through historical urban architecture and is a poignant record of transformation and loss along the Hudson River. Lynch beautifully and effortlessly creates landscapes of deteriorated maritime piers and vestiges of piles supporting those piers along the river. Lynch worked on this body of work between 2000 and 2006, a time of great change in Manhattan, especially along the waterways. The new Hudson River Park, which was developed on the sites of her images, is the largest public park to undergo construction in New York City since Central Park. It spans from Battery Park to 59th Street and began transformation in 1999; Lynch focused on the areas in Manhattan between Canal and 65th Streets.
