Encyclopedia suggests the accumulation, ordering and presentation of knowledge. The way in which our culture chooses to define, examine and comment upon itself is the sprawling subject of this body of work that Allen Takichi Maertz has developed over the years. The images are deceptively simple, capturing subtle moments of light, scenes within scenes and individuals responding to and moving through information in real and fabricated worlds.
