Katarina Radović: Off The Main Road
14–23 August 2016

The photographs from the series Off The Main Road were taken in various places Morocco over a period between 2013 and 2015, mostly on the fringes of the Sahara Desert or by the Atlantic Ocean. Digitally reworked, the images acquired an almost painterly look or the look of children’s books illustrations or scenic designs. In such a play between the natural and the fantastical, they evoke the spirit of this fascinating part of the world, in which one often has the feeling that the hands of the clock have refused to move on with Time. “It’s like a pocket outside the mainstream”, as Paul Bowles once referred to Morocco where he lived and wrote. And, in a way, it still seems to continue to exist off the actual time-space map.
