Hidemi Nishida and Piercarlo Quecchia: BACK TO THE LAND
14/05/2022 till 04/06/2022

“They were working at kolkhoz. My father was a tractor driver,
and my mother was working at the farm and getting milk from cows there. Everyone was satisfied with their job. No one was complaining.
Everyone was just doing what they had to do, and need to do. That was their work.” Evgeny Antonov

BACK TO THE LAND is the result of a three years research – from 2018 to 2021 – during which Hidemi Nishida and Piercarlo Quecchia investigated about Nikola Lenivets art park, located in Russia, 200 km southwest of Moscow. This was previously a Kolchoz – soviet farm – dismantled after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and now converted into an art park thanks to different artists’ work which gave the chance to local people to come back working in their native village. Nishida Hidemi’s interviews and texts are in dialogue with Piercarlo Quecchia’s photos; their purpose is to point out the characters of local people as part of the artistic process which involves them in the production of the art installation and the maintenance of the park itself.
