“Anastasia Samoylova ‘s Image Cities represents a sprawling international tour through the world’s major urban centers, which together form a powerful interconnected global network of cultural and economic influence.
Across 17 cities, including New York, Paris, London, Zurich, Tokyo and Milan, among others, Samoylova focuses her lens intensely on the public images that saturate the surfaces of these metropolises and forms a critical and lyrical study of how such images exert their influence on urban dwellers. In doing so, the artist does not show us what is exclusive to these places, but what is the same: the ominous and progressive homogeneity of commodity culture that manifests itself in an increasingly corporatized planet.”
