Christoph Grill: DEPTH OF FIELD
15. 5. – 13. 6. 2025
Opening of the solo exhibition will be Thursday, 15 May 2025 at 8 pm
“You are cordially invited to the solo exhibition of the Austrian photographer Christoph Grill (1965), which is the result of his long-term research travels. His landscapes are, on the one hand, a conceptual exploration of pre-existing images of the world and, on the other, an analytical insight into the meanings that these landscapes carry or reveal. The artist focuses in particular on the traces of political ideologies in devastated and wounded landscapes – on the consequences of violent interventions that visibly or invisibly contaminate these places, even if people still try to live on in them.
The title of the exhibition Depth of Field summarises the photographic technical term of depth of field, but the artist also refers to the pictorial and conceptual depth of his images – to the many layers of meaning that are revealed in the images. The landscape as the dominant motif in his work is a space in which the brutality of history, the vulnerability of nature and human perseverance are intertwined.”
