Lotfi Benyelles: Algiers, intimate city and urban space
April 10 to May 31

“Over the past thirty years, the Algiers region has undergone profound changes. The expansion of housing estates and the densification of the urban fabric have reshaped the city and shifted its boundaries. Housing forms have diversified, but the city has never stabilized. Slums are still there, large housing estates have multiplied, and the historic center has seen its uses change. Algiers, Intimate City and Urban Space takes as its starting point the concrete forms of Algiers housing—colonial apartments, planned estates, informal constructions—to approach the ways in which the city is organized, transformed, and experienced. Between domestic spaces and public places, the exhibition focuses on everyday practices: gestures, modes of occupation, circulation, appropriation, and circumvention.”
